Potato Head Beach Club Turns 15 with a Celebration of Sound, Sustainability, and Soul

Seminyak’s iconic beachfront venue, Potato Head Beach Club, marks a milestone year with global collaborators, circular menus, and a new wave of cultural programming.

Since opening its doors in 2010, Potato Head Beach Club has evolved from a design-forward beachside hotspot into something far greater – a global hub for creativity, sustainability, and community. As the Bali-based cultural destination celebrates its 15th anniversary this year, its legacy is as much about sonic moments and architectural wonder as it is about purpose and progress.

Built from 6,600 reclaimed teak shutters, the Beach Club quickly made headlines for its striking design and future-facing hospitality. But what began as a bold experiment in beachfront leisure has since grown into Desa Potato Head – a sprawling creative village on Seminyak’s shores that’s redefining what responsible travel and living can look like.

Fifteen years after its debut on the Seminyak shoreline, Potato Head Beach Club remains one of the most innovative hospitality concepts in the world. Its anniversary season – spanning sonic explorations, circular menus, and cultural rituals – is a celebration of the values that have shaped its journey: creativity, sustainability, and community.

A Cultural Playground by the Sea

Aside from being a place to stay, Desa Potato Head is a creative campus, a sustainability lab, and a cultural playground by the sea.

Located on Bali’s Petitenget Beach, Desa Potato Head encompasses the iconic Beach Club, a 225-room hotel, multiple restaurants, and wellness facilities. Named in the World’s 50 Best Hotels awards of 2024 and 2025, the Desa continues to push boundaries through art, design, music, and food – all with sustainability and community at its core.

From hosting workshops in its on-site Waste Lab to running its Sweet Potato Project farming initiative, the Desa is designed to inspire conscious living. As a certified B Corp, its mission is simple: Good Times, Do Good

From Sunset Sets to Sonic Legends

Over the past decade and a half, Potato Head has hosted an eclectic roll call of music royalty. From Snoop Dogg to Grace Jones, Peggy Gou to Overmono, the Beach Club has consistently brought together generations of sonic innovators, turning its seaside stage into one of Asia’s most respected cultural platforms.

Some moments are the stuff of legend: Erykah Badu’s unforgettable performance beneath the stars; Disclosure recording part of an album on-site; Peggy Gou turning the hotel suites into makeshift studios. Meanwhile, Sundown Circle – Potato Head’s signature sunset series – has transformed the golden hour into a spiritual ritual for music lovers, setting the rhythm for dusk with curated sets that move body and soul.

Grounded in Purpose

Beyond the music, Potato Head’s evolution has always been driven by deeper values. Its commitment to zero waste, regenerative practices and local connection is embedded across the entire Desa. Today, the village includes two sustainably designed hotels, a subterranean club, the zero-waste Ijen restaurant, and a plant-powered Farmacy bar – all working in concert to prove that luxury and responsibility can coexist.

As of 2025, the Desa sends less than 0.5% of its waste to landfill – a staggering achievement for any hospitality outfit, let alone one of this scale.

Its next chapter? Circular gastronomy. Under the direction of Chef Felix Schoener, the venue’s latest food programme will reimagine how ingredients are sourced and served – with the goal of transforming food by-products into dishes that surprise and delight. The new menus launching this month across the Desa are bold in flavour, beautifully crafted, and built to reduce waste at every step.

A Season of Celebration

From June to August, the 15th anniversary is being marked with a series of cultural events, collaborative takeovers, and limited-edition launches. Artists, friends, and creative allies from around the globe are converging in Bali to honour the milestone in true Potato Head style – with intention, imagination and plenty of soul.

On 26 July, the celebrations reach their crescendo with a night-long anniversary party. The line-up includes cult Indonesian favourites White Shoes & The Couples Company, Sore, Diskoria, and Greybox Ensemble. The following morning, a spiritual ceremony led by Pak Sedana will draw from the Balinese philosophy of Tri Hita Karana, grounding the festivities in harmony with people, nature and the divine.

Circularity as the Future Model of Hospitality

Potato Head’s journey over the past 15 years reflects a quiet but radical shift in the hospitality world. In an industry often obsessed with opulence, it has chosen to prioritise people and the planet – without compromising on beauty, joy or experience.

Its blueprint is now a model for what cultural destinations of the future could look like: circular, inclusive, locally rooted, and globally relevant

This season’s celebrations serve as a nod to the past as well as a living manifesto – of what it means to live, travel, and create with intention.
