For most of its history, Formula One has attracted largely a male fanbase, particularly those with interest in motorsports. In November 2022, F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali said that approximately 40% of global F1 fans are now female, up 8% from 2017.
This is thanks in no small part to “The Netflix Effect” of the popular docu-series, Drive to Survive, which takes viewers behind the scenes of F1 and dissects the art, science and politics behind the sport. The fact that F1’s popularity has skyrocketed since the show’s debut in 2019 is no coincidence. Well, that, coupled with the hundreds of social media fan pages worshipping the good looks (and talents) of the F1 fraternity.
Whether you’ve been keeping up with the seasons or not, it’s no secret that F1 is the most expensive sport in the world. The cost of participation alone requires millions of dollars – and that’s before taking into account the development of racing cars, technology, facilities, staffing, travel, and the drivers’ salary.
Understandably, a big-budget sport like F1 relies heavily on sponsorships and marketing deals. And with that comes a slew of activations, events, parties, and non-stop entertainment that make each F1 Grand Prix a phenomenon worth travelling (and forking out a hefty sum) for.
With that being said, some Grand Prix weekends are known to be more lavish than others. Ahead, take a gander at the F1 destinations that pull out all the stops to offer unparalleled VIP packages, unique thrills, and exclusive access to behind-the-scenes experiences.
Monaco Grand Prix, Monte Carlo
The Monaco Grand Prix is one of the most iconic and prestigious events on the F1 calendar. Set against the backdrop of the glamorous Monte Carlo, this street circuit promises an adrenaline-filled experience for racing enthusiasts and luxury travelers alike.
Picture sipping on champagne on a private yacht with prime views of the Mediterranean coastline – just a few feet away from the heart-stopping circuit action. Or splurging on VIP packages that offer the best food, drinks and views one can have without missing a single moment of the race. Of course, Monaco itself is known to be a billionaire’s playground, so expect opulent accommodation, a star-studded guestlist, and fancy after-parties.
Italian Grand Prix, Monza
Another highly popular and historic F1 event is the Italian Grand Prix, which typically takes place at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza track. Famous for its high-speed nature with long straights and fast corners, this track promises thrilling overtaking opportunities and on-track action.
Monza is especially significant for Ferrari fans, as it is the home ground of the Italian racing team. Hence, Ferrari usually hosts some of the most luxurious race-weekend activities here – some of which are only accessible by Ferrari Club members. One ticketed affair that’s not-to-be-missed is the Garage Experience, which offers a front-row seat in the Pit Lane, adjacent to the team garages, in addition to exclusive meet-and-greets and VIP dining and track experiences.
British Grand Prix, Silverstone
Touted as the home of British Formula One, Silverstone is a historic and beloved circuit by long-time fans of the sport. Known for its fast and challenging track layout, Silverstone promises an exhilarating atmosphere both on and off the track. Notably, there are three British drivers in the 2024 season – George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton – so you can expect strong support from their home crowd.
There’s an array of VIP hospitality packages to tickle your fancy, from the Fusion Lounge experience with track-side views to the Pit Lane Access Package for true F1 superfans to get up close and personal with the Paddock. These also typically include fine culinary delights, free-flowing drinks, prime race views, giant screens, live entertainment, and more.
Miami Grand Prix, Miami
Despite being one of the newer race tracks, the Miami Grand Prix is known to have one of the most expensive average F1 ticket prices out of the 24 races in the 2024 season. It takes a year to plan the track set up around Hard Rock Stadium, the home of the Miami Dolphins. This unique setup gives any fan the opportunity to walk inside the 300-level area of the stadium to view the team villages and paddock, which could be attributed to the higher ticket costs.
Race action aside, this destination is distinguished by its “fake marina” with yachts on display for premium-tier ticketholders to tour. The three-day race weekend also typically coincides with other luxury experiences, such as Art Basel and the Bonham exotic car auction this year.
Las Vegas Grand Prix, Las Vegas Strip
Returning for the first time in over 40 years in 2023, the Las Vegas Grand Prix boasts a brand-new circuit in the heart of Las Vegas spanning the city’s renowned Strip. It is one of the few night races on the calendar, offering a unique race experience complemented by the city’s flashy lights and new icon, the MSG Sphere.
True to its reputation as the “Sin City”, Las Vegas brings a host of action-packed entertainment to F1 fans over the Grand Prix weekend. Think performances by world-class DJs and artists, by-invitation-only after-parties and other exciting themed events. Among the opulent hospitality packages on offer include the Wynn Grid Club, which features pit lane walks, guided tours, F1® drivers and ambassador appearances, all-inclusive meals, as well as Silver Stage access for driver interviews and an exciting entertainment lineup.
